HIPAA Subsystem
The ever evolving world of health care claims and benefits processing has come under stronger and more specific federal regulations in recent years. To comply with these regulations while at the same time providing our customers with an "easy" way to process HIPAA transactions, we have created a HIPAA Subsystem that is integrated into the core FACTS system. The key electronic transactions that our HIPAA Subsystem assists in the processing of are identified below:

  • Health care or co-ordination of benefits for Retail drug , Dental, Professional and Institutional claims
  • Payment and Remittance Advice
  • Health claim status
  • Plan enrollment
  • Plan eligibility
  • Plan premium payments
  • Referral certification

eREMIT (Electronic Remittance)
The process of sending monthly remittance information from employers to fund offices and third-party administrators is still largely a manual one. Employers usually create a "hardcopy" report of hours and wages that is sent, via the postal service, to the fund office. At the fund office, an administrator then enters the hours and wages into the FACTS system.

We have developed an electronic process, called eREMIT, that allows the employer to enter hours and wages into a database and then "send" the data electronically to the fund office. The fund office administrator simply "retrieves" the employer data and "imports" it into the FACTS system.

The eREMIT system offers the following benefits over the existing manually intensive process:

  • Single point of data entry - entered once and done, no need for fund office to re-enter data
  • Eliminates rounding errors by using standardized calculations
  • Provides a standardized interface to employers and the fund office
  • Provides updated employee, contract and rate information
  • Reduces "in process" time - remittance data is "sent" and available in seconds or minutes compared to days or weeks
  • Eliminates the cost of "sending" remittance data via the postal service
  • Reduces paper costs at the fund office ("list" and "no list" template reports no longer necessary)
